A Danville man has been found guilty of shooting and killing another person at the Untouchables Motorcycle Club in 2018.
Jurors on Thursday afternoon convicted 21-year-old Dyontae Bright of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Albert Gardner of Danville on June 16, 2018. Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey set a sentencing date of April 22nd.
Danville police officers responded to the Untouchables Motorcycles Club, located at 106 Commercial Street, around 2 a.m. on June 16 after reports of a shooting. They found three victims with gunshot wounds. Gardner and 17-year-old Tahji McGill were pronounced dead at the scene, while another man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting occurred during a weekend event at the club, but it did not involve any of the club’s members.
The case was prosecuted by the Illinois Attorney General’s office with the assistance of Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy’s office.
“After shooting the victim, the defendant fled to a neighboring state in an attempt to avoid accountability,” Attorney General Kwame Raoul said. “As with this case, collaborations between federal, state, county and local law enforcement are critical to ensuring that individuals who perpetrate violent crimes are convicted – particularly when they go to extreme lengths to avoid capture. I look forward to continue these partnerships to protect communities from gun violence.”
Lacy said in a statement that the verdict shows that gang shootings will not be tolerated in Vermilion County.
