Work now underway at Danville Stadium has the Director of the Danville Area Visitors Bureau excited. Jeanie Cooke is also a Managing Partner of the Danville Dans Baseball team.
The entire outside of the stadium is being upgraded in a nearly $300,000 project approved recently by the Danville City Council. Cooke says she is looking forward to games resuming at the stadium this summer…
“Of course, safety’s going to be the number-one issue, and we’ll certainly be looking at what is recommended for people, but of of the things we have is a company called Clear Gear, and they provide the products used to keep the stadium sanitary and free of issues for the entire summer, at no cost to anyone in our league,” Cooke explained.
Two special events are scheduled at the stadium this year since it is marking its 75th anniversary. Cooke notes that during that period there have been numerous players who have played baseball there and then gone on to play in the Major Leagues…
“There have been well over 200, maybe more than 250 major leaguers who have come through Danville Stadium,” she says. “The Dans have had 30, so it just keeps going, and this renovation is going to help keep it going for a long time.”
Danville Stadium is located just off Illinois route one near South View Upper Elementary School. It serves as the home field for not only the Dans but also Danville Area Community College and Danville High School. And it is where much of the movie ‘The Babe’ was filmed.
