Danville residents will be able to burn leaves and have recreational fires on private properties as the city has lifted the burning ban that was established last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the request of healthcare providers.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says that the regular rules on leaf burning will still apply. Residents are not allowed to burn leaves at night and must burn them away from structures and away from a public sidewalk or alley. Only leaves can be burned and not trash or cardboard.
Recreational fires are also permitted, but Williams says that any resident wishing to do so should first contact emergency dispatch at the Public Safety Building at 217-442-0153.
