Early Voting for the April 6th (2021) Consolidated Election is off to a very slow start in Danville and Vermilion County. As of midday Wednesday, (March 17th) fewer than one-hundred people had cast early votes at the Danville Election Commission office according to Executive Director Sandra Delhaye. And Lindsay Light, Chief Deputy in County Clerk Cathy Jenkins office, said just 51 people had cast early votes in that office, and another 81 asked for vote by mail information.
Both Delhaye and Light say the early voting numbers are a far cry from last November’s Presidential Election. They are, however, encouraging voters to vote early. Both the Danville Election Commission and County Clerk offices are located in the County Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion Street in downtown Danville. Both offices are open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and both plan to offer Saturday morning hours for Early Voting on March 27th and April 3rd from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
The April 6th election will decide who will win 7 seats on the Danville City Council along with mayoral or village board and school board seats all over Vermilion County. Township races are also on the ballot that day. In Danville School District 118 there are seven candidates vying for four seats on the Board of Education. In the Danville Area Community College District there are three candidates running for two seats.
Georgetown, Westville, Tilton, Oakwood, and Bismarck are some of the communities or school districts where there are contested races on the ballot. Bismarck voters are also deciding whether the retail sale of alcoholic beverages should be prohibited in the village.
