Employees of the school districts in the Danville area received a special gift this week, courtesy of the Danville Area United Way.
Mary Surprenant, the executive director of the organization, delivered hundreds of boxes of tulips to each school in Vermilion County this week, public and private. She says the plants are an appreciation for what teachers have gone through this year.
“We’re so incredibly grateful for the teachers and staffs of our educational systems here in Vermilion County,” she explains. “It’s been a rough year.”
The plants were not for just teachers in the local schools, but also for secretaries, teaching assistants, custodians, and everyone else who makes the day possible for students.
Surprenant says that 12 of the 17 agencies that the United Way supports regularly focus on educational programs. Some of those include CASA, Peer Court, Crosspoint Human Services and the Boys and Girls Club.
