The new McDonald’s restaurant in Covington is getting closer to opening.
Groundbreaking on the new location is set for Thursday morning. The location will be owned and operated by Don and Deanna Witzel, who own the six Vermilion County McDonald’s restaurants–three in Danville and one each in Georgetown, Hoopeston and Oakwood.
The new restaurant was first announced in January 2020, and at that time it was planned to open last October. Due to COVID-19, the project was delayed by a few months, but it is now on track to open in July. It will be located just west of Casey’s General Store along Route 136.
Up to 70 people will work at the new McDonald’s location. It is also set to have a double drive-through and up-to-date technology for consumer convenience and safety.
