State Representative Mike Marron is set to hold a virtual town hall meeting this week to answer questions from his constituents.
Marron and Representative David Welter of Morris will be hosting the forum at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday via Zoom.
Welter says that there are many issues affecting state residents right now, including business owners. He says his goal is to get kids back in school as quickly and safely as possible. Marron adds that it is time to clean up the failures of Governor J.B. Pritzker’s administration centered around COVID-19 relief and that it is time for the General Assembly to “do the work of the people.”
Marron has sponsored or voted on legislation in the past few weeks that has made it out of the committee stage. One of the bills would allow community colleges to take advantage of a federal tax credit program in order to build affordable housing near campuses. He says that the bill would allow for the redevelopment of some properties near Danville Area Community College. Another bill that Marron has sponsored would require contact information for suicide prevention services to be placed on the back of student identification cards issued by a school. He says it came about after the death of a local student.
“It came about because a young family had a young man who committed suicide back in December of 2019,” Marron explains. “He was a high school student. Friends of them came up with the idea to make this information more accessible and maybe get it out there and prevent that thing from happening in the future.”
Area residents can register online for the event.
