After a lengthy delay due to COVID-19, officials in Covington celebrated the groundbreaking of their future McDonald’s restaurant Thursday morning.
Vermilion County McDonald’s Owner Deanna Witzel says Covington Mayor Brad Crain is the one who originally brought the idea of the restaurant going into an empty lot next to Casey’s General Store along Route 136. The restaurant was supposed to open last October, but like everything else, Witzel says COVID-19 got in the way.

Crain says that residents are excited about the new restaurant eventually opening, hoping that it will draw in people from around the area.

Witzel says that the actual construction work will start on Monday. Approximately 70 people will be employed, and hiring is now underway. Those who are interested in applying can visit McHire.com for details.
