Sandra Finch says that not enough students from Danville take advantage of the opportunities that are available at Danville Area Community College, and she says that wants to be able to promote that.
Finch, who has worked for many years as the Human Resources Administrator in Danville city government, says that local students need to be aware of higher educational options right in their own backyards.
“I feel that we need to promote DACC more in our community and promote our students and going to DACC instead of going to another community college,” she explains.
Finch says that she was encouraged to run for the position by a local community leader. She says students should know about resources available to students, including dual-credit programs through local high schools.
“My daughter was able to take dual college courses through Danville High School and she was able to complete her first year of college, so I believe awareness is the biggest factor here in making people aware of resources they have to help pay for their college and also to encourage them to look at programs to help them make a decision on their career,” Finch explains.
Finch is facing safety engineer Dylan Haun and local restaurant owner Maruti Seth on the April 6th ballot. You can listen to the full interview on our website.
