Danville voters living in Ward 3 will be choosing between two newcomers in Tuesday’s consolidated election.
Heidi Pertell and Damara Joyner are both seeking to replace current alderman and longtime community organizer R.J. Davis in Ward 3. Davis, who has served since 2013, is not seeking reelection. Joyner could not be reached by VermilionCountyFirst.com for comment.
Pertell says that she has connections through working with the city housing authority and also connections in the local schools. She says she would like to be part of positive change for the city.
“I’ve met a lot of great people in this town that have done some great things, and I would like to be one of those people that can really make a change in our community, make great things happen and just boost the morale in our city,” she says.
Pertell says that Ward 3 is in need of neighborhood revitalization. She says there are many abandoned structures that need to be torn down, and the streets are also in need of repair. Youth activities are also an area of concern for her.
“I would like to see some more things put in place for our youth so that they’re not out there in the streets getting in trouble, engaging in drugs and gang activity, and things of that nature,” she explains.
You can listen to the full interview with Pertell on our website. Tomorrow, we will spotlight the write-in race for Ward 2 in Danville.
