Governor J.B. Pritzker has signed new legislation that will bring about some changes regarding voting. But Danville Election Commission Executive Director Sandy Delhaye says there is no way the changes can be implemented in time for Tuesday’s consolidated election.
House Bill 1871 brings about changes in the Illinois Election Codes, including allowing curbside voting. It allows voters to fill out ballots outside the polling place for both early voting and voting on Election Day.
Also under the new changes, election officials will be required to accept mail-in ballots, even if they have insufficient or no postage. The legislation also provides for drop boxes for voters to drop off their completed ballot.
Delhaye just received notice late last week that the Governor has signed the bill. She says it was the quickest she has ever seen a bill move through the General Assembly. The bill was filed on February 16th and was signed by Governor Pritzker on Friday.
