Even as much of the country begins to reopen from restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, new cases and deaths are still being reported.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says that a woman in her 70’s recently died of the virus, making her the 123rd person from Vermilion County to die of the virus. He also reported 11 new cases on Monday evening, which include two people in their 70’s and three teenagers.
Currently, Vermilion County has 247 active cases and two people hospitalized with the virus. There have been a total of 8,863 positive cases since March of last year. The county has a rolling positivity rate of 1.9 percent, which is low but is still the highest in the past 10 days. Region 6’s positivity rate is holding steady at around 2.5 percent.
Toole says that 199 people received a vaccine on Monday through the health department, which included 170 first-dose Moderna vaccinations and 29 second-dose Pfizer vaccinations.
Limited appointments are still available for the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccination clinics that will be held on Wednesday at the Fischer Theatre and on Saturday at the health department. You can visit the health department’s website for more specific details and to register for a time. No walk-in appointments will be available due to limited supply.
