Danville city council members this evening are set to consider accepting a $64,000 donation to make improvements to the AMBUCS playground on Winter Avenue.
The current playground, which opened in 2001, is in need of repairs to keep it in use for another generation of kids in the local area. The project includes replacing play panels and benches along with adding some new features. The safety railings have been removed from the playground structures and repainted, and are currently waiting to be re-installed. The project is planned to be completed in July.
Aldermen are also going to vote on purchasing new body cameras for Danville police officers and new reporting software for the fire department, both of which were discussed during a committee meeting two weeks ago. The city’s board of fire and police commissioners is also set to meet this afternoon and will be considering three new police candidates to replace officers who will be retiring this year.
Tonight’s council meeting starts at 6 p.m. and is available for the public to watch on the city’s YouTube account.
