Three new aldermen will be joining the Danville City Council next month after winning their election races Tuesday night.
Carolyn Wands defeated three other candidates in a write-in race for Ward 2, receiving 44 votes while the other candidates had less than five votes each. Heidi Pertell defeated Damara Joyner in the Ward 3 election, 74 votes to 58. In Ward 4, local businesswoman Tricia Teague upset longtime alderwoman Sharon McMahon, receiving 64 votes to McMahon’s 45.
Ward 6 Alderman Jim Poshard defeated Allan Shepherd, 189 votes to 164. Darren York is currently leading by a single vote over local attorney Kaylan Huber in Ward 7, 281 votes to 280.
All four incumbents on the Danville District 118 school board won another term on the board. Darlene Halloran was the top vote-getter with 1,541 votes. Dr. Randal Ashton received 1,430 votes, Shannon Schroeder received 1,374 votes and Lon Henderson received 1,259 votes. Challengers Ricky Hoskins, Tyson Parks and Harsha Gurujal fell short with 792, 714 and 708 votes, respectively.
Sandra Finch and Dylan Haun prevailed in the three-way race for two spots on the Danville Area Community College board of trustees. Finch has 4,053 votes and Haun has 3,234, while Maruti Seth came up short with 2,643. Those totals include Champaign, Edgar, Ford and Vermilion county results.
Longtime Tilton Mayor David Phillips secured a sixth term in office, defeating Police Chief David Cornett by a wide margin, 373 votes to Cornett’s 74 votes. And Hoopeston Mayor Bill Crusinberry defeated Mike Bane, 498 votes to 402.
Voters in Bismarck showed their support for allowing alcohol to be sold within the village limits, defeating a referendum to outlaw the practice, 91 votes to 39.
