An inmate from Hoopeston died on Sunday morning inside the Vermilion County Jail.
County Coroner Jane McFadden identified the man as 43-year-old Joshua J. Edwards. He was facing charges in separate domestic battery incidents.
Chief Investigator Mike Hartshorn says that a correctional officer found Edwards unresponsive inside his cell at the Public Safety Building. Officers attempted lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful, and Edwards was pronounced dead around 11:15 a.m.
An autopsy is scheduled for today. McFadden’s office and Illinois State Police are investigating the case.
