The reduction in the workforce associated with the COVID-19 pandemic might have many people believe that not many jobs are out there for them, but plenty of employers in the Danville area are looking for workers.
Tim Dudley, the CEO of Vermilion Advantage, says that many of the city’s major employers have multiple jobs available, and he says they are in need because of a high turnover rate and not enough applicants. There are more than 100 jobs listed on Vermilion Advantage’s online Job Board.
Speaking on WDAN’s Newsmakers program Tuesday morning, Dudley says that a high job vacancy rate could affect the potential for new business or business expansion in Vermilion County if it doesn’t improve.
“A lot of these companies are owned by parent companies that are out of state or even out of the country,” he explains. “They’re worldwide. They have factories all over the world. When they look to expand their lines, they would love to look at Danville but when they look at Danville and say ‘Well, gosh, we can’t even keep our employment numbers level with there they are now, how are we ever going to expand in Danville?'”
Dudley says many of the positions that are available offer great potential, and that even includes the factory positions. He says many times if people can stick with a company for a certain amount of time, then more opportunities can come around. He also says that many of the jobs offer a good benefit package.
