A Danville murder suspect who is set to go on trial later this year has been sentenced to five years in prison in an unrelated weapons case.
20-year-old Lamont Davis pleaded guilty Wednesday morning before Judge Charles Hall to possessing a gun without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, which is a Class 3 Felony. The sentence was the maximum that Davis could have received.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says that Danville police officers were patrolling the Fair Oaks public housing complex around 11 a.m. on April 26, 2019 when they spotted Davis, who had been banned from the complex. Davis began running from officers and a gun fell out of his pocket during the pursuit.
Davis was ineligible for a FOID card because of a 2017 juvenile conviction for aggravated discharge of a firearm. He was given credit for 680 days that he has spent at the Public Safety Building.
Later this year, Davis is expected to go on trial for the November 9, 2019 death of 20-year-old Justin Daubaris. Daubaris and a 23-year-old man were shot during a home invasion in the 900-block of Hazel Street. The other man survived.
