49 more Vermilion County residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
The county health department reported over the past two days that the new cases include four people in their 80’s, one person in their 70’s and three people in their 60’s. Eight teenagers, one grade-school-aged child, a toddler and two infants are also among the latest positive cases locally.
County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says that 8,948 people have now tested positive overall in Vermilion County, while 126 people have died. There are currently five residents who are hospitalized with COVID-19 and 42 cases are active.
Region 6’s positivity rate has held steady at 2.6 percent over the past three days, but other regions of the state are experiencing higher case rates. Regions 1 and 2, which include northwest and west central Illinois, each have fewer than 20 percent of ICU beds available. The Peoria area is experiencing a 12.6 percent positivity rate. Officials there say several variants are spreading among local residents.
