Students who attend Danville Area Community College will have a unique, cost-saving opportunity for the summer semester if they receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The college will be offering one free summer course to all students who can show proof that they have been vaccinated.
Academic Advisor Timothy Morgan says that students with a vaccination card can choose one free summer course, either in-person or online. Tuition and course fees will be waved, and the only fees a student will pay are book and lab equipment fees.
Faculty members are currently working with Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Natalie Page on a number of new in-person classes for the summer. Some may be compressed to fewer than seven weeks. Students who want to take advantage of the free class can do so by showing their card in-person, by email or text.
On-campus classes during the summer will continue to require health-and-safety protocols, though, with social-distancing and masks required for vaccinated students as well as those who aren’t vaccinated. DACC was the first community college in Illinois to vaccinate its entire staff, allowing in-person learning to resume last month.
