The Vermilion County Health Department says that the number of COVID-19 cases has jumped by 67 over the past few days, and more than 9,000 people have now tested positive overall.
Administrator Doug Toole says that the cases include one person in their 80’s, four people in their 70’s, four people in their 60’s, eight teenagers, two grade-school-aged children, one preschooler, two toddlers and one infant.
Currently, there are nine county residents who are hospitalized with COVID, and 81 cases are active locally.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, east central Illinois has a rolling positivity rate of three percent and has about 40 percent of intensive care hospital beds still available. Both are well above the mitigation level. Peoria, Rockford and suburban Chicago are all experiencing low levels of ICU bed availability.
The health department is offering first-dose Moderna vaccines today and Wednesday at Danville Area Community College and on Thursday at the Vermilion Regional Airport. You can sign up through the health department’s website. About 20 percent of Vermilion County is completely vaccinated. Adams County (Quincy) is leading the state right now with 33 percent of its population fully vaccinated.
