The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department is warning local residents about a phone scam where the caller pretends to be a deputy.
Captain Mike Hartshorn says that the caller ID will show the main sheriff’s number (217-442-4080) and the person on the call will identify himself as “Sgt. Bell” and tell the person on the other end to call 630-765-5237.
Hartshorn explains that the calls are not legitimate and residents should not provide any personal information to the caller. If you receive one of these calls, you should hang up immediately.
