The Vermilion County Board is appointing a local attorney and former state representative to fill a vacant seat in District 2.
Steve Miller will be sworn in during the board’s next meeting on Tuesday night. He is filling the seat that was formerly held by Chuck Mockbee III, who died in February.
Miller represented Vermilion County in Springfield from 1980-1982 and is also a former county board member. He is a partner at the Acton and Snyder law firm in Danville, specializing in real estate, wills, municipal law and bankruptcy cases.
District 2 includes the areas north and west of Danville, including Alvin, Armstrong, Bismarck, Collison, Muncie, Newtown, Oakwood and Potomac.
Also on Tuesday night, the board will vote to appropriate $217,500 in grant funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health toward the Vermilion County Health Department for its ongoing COVID-19 vaccination clinics, and an additional $12,000 for its two electronics recycling events later this year.
Board members will also vote on reducing the speed limit on the Henning Road to 50 miles per hour on a small section of the roadway just north of the village limits.
