Five more Vermilion County residents have died from COVID-19, pushing the overall death toll up to 131 people.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says that the recent deaths include a man and woman in their 80’s and three men in their 70’s. More than 21,000 people have died from the virus in Illinois and more than 560,000 nationwide.
In addition, 24 new COVID cases were reported over the past two days, with six cases reported on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday night. Toole says that the new cases include five people in their 70’s and one person in their 60’s. There are currently 82 active cases around Vermilion County, and five of those people are hospitalized with the virus.
The health department is adding Moderna vaccine clinics around Vermilion County. The schedule is as follows:
- April 29 – Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School (3-7 p.m.)
- May 1 – Tilton Community Center (9 a.m.-Noon)
- May 5 – Oakwood Grade School (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
- May 6 – Salt Fork South Elementary and Junior High (3-7 p.m.)
First-dose clinics are also taking place on Wednesday at the Bremer Theater at Danville Area Community College and on Thursday at the Vermilion Regional Airport. Appointments can be scheduled at the health department’s website.
