The local unemployment rate stayed relatively the same in March, even as many employers are actively seeking many more workers.
Vermilion County’s jobless rate was unchanged from February, staying at 6.9 percent. Danville’s unemployment rate increased one tenth of a percent to eight percent even.
Tim Dudley, the CEO of Vermilion Advantage, noted during a roundtable discussion with members on Thursday morning that many major employers in the area are struggling to fill key positions, which he also noted during an interview for VermilionCountyFirst.com last week. Dudley said yesterday that many of the corporations are desperate for more workers, as some hires do not last long term.
Elsewhere around the area, Champaign’s unemployment rate is at 4.9 percent, which is a decrease of one tenth of a percent. Urbana’s rate improved by two-tenths of a percent, now down to 4.5 percent.
