Wednesday’s recount of a portion of the Ward 7 election results did not yield any change in the results, with Darren York still winning by one vote over Kaylan Huber, 281 votes to 280.
The Board of Election Commissioners reviewed the ballots in Precinct 17, which consists of the subdivisions along Old Ottawa Road west of Lake Vermilion. Huber had requested the discovery recount after the commissioners certified York’s victory last week.
Danville Election Commission Executive Director Sandy Delhaye says that Huber, who is a local attorney, could still petition a court order in the next seven days to recount the entire slate of ballots. She adds that Huber did not indicate during the meeting this morning if she would do that.
York, who works for the Illinois Department of Human Services, will be sworn into office for his first elected term next Tuesday night, May 4th. The meeting will be held in-person at City Hall.
