Kids in Vermilion County will once again have a unique opportunity to learn about safety this summer, as the Danville Police Department is bringing back classes at Friendly Town in Lincoln Park after it was canceled last year because of the pandemic.
Classes will be held five days a week beginning June 28th through August 13th, with both a morning and afternoon session. It is open to kids in first through third grades. Some of the topics will include strangers, bullying and fire safety. Along with classroom time, students will have the opportunity to drive small electric vehicles through Friendly Town, which is located in the southeast part of Lincoln Park.
This is the 50th year for the Friendly Town safety education program. It originally opened in 1970. Hundreds of students have participated in the program over the years since it started.
A registration form can be found on the Danville Police Department’s Facebook page.
