A Phoenix, Illinois man has been convicted for his role in a gang attack and murder at the Fair Oaks Housing Complex two years ago.
Judge Nancy Fahey found 28-year-old Percy Freeman guilty Wednesday morning following a bench trial on four counts of murder and one count of aggravated battery in the shooting death of 25-year-old Roosevelt Anderson Jr. on April 24, 2019.
The murder case was brought forth by the Illinois Attorney General’s office and the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s office.
Danville police were called to the 900-block of Redden Court that afternoon and found Anderson lying in the roadway.
Prosecutors argued that although Freeman did not pull the trigger, he still participated in the attack on Anderson. Video surveillance cameras captured the incident.
Freeman is set to be sentenced in early July. He faces up to 75 years in prison.
The man who shot Anderson to death—Denzel Aldridge—is still awaiting trial on murder charges. Two other defendants, Tavares Mitchell and Tariq Wilson, were acquitted during separate trials last year.
