Preparation work for the new Carle at the Riverfront is still underway as construction work could start soon.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said during Tuesday night’s Public Works Committee meeting that Carle is anticipating that the groundbreaking will be in mid-June. Crews have been installing stop lights at the intersection of Gilbert and Madison streets, which will replace the stop lights at Gilbert and Harrison streets.
Committee members approved a request to vacate a small portion of land at the intersection of Logan Avenue and Madison Street as part of the project.
Mayor Williams also says that the city should hear from the Illinois Gaming Board by July about the casino application that has been submitted by Wilmorite Construction to build a Golden Nugget-branded venue on Eastgate Drive. The board is not meeting this month, and its next scheduled meeting is on June 9th.
The committee also approved a $1.8 million purchase of four new buses for Danville Mass Transit. Director Lisa Beith says it could take 12 to 18 months before production begins, but the new buses would be new models when they hit the road. She says that cameras would be included in the new buses. The old buses could be used for backup purposes, with one older bus currently filling that capacity.
Committee members also approved pump station upgrades as well as annual road-maintenance projects.
