With the Food and Drug Administration approving the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for teenagers ages 12 to 15 this week, the Vermilion County Health Department is scheduling some local clinics for the vaccine to be distributed.
Four clinics are currently scheduled:
- Tuesday, May 18 at Hoopeston Area High School (Hoopeston)
- Wednesday, May 19 at Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School (Georgetown)
- Friday, May 21 at Salt Fork Junior High School (Jamaica)
- Saturday, May 22 at Mark Denman Elementary School (Danville)
Registration for each clinic will be open only to Vermilion County students. More information will be available in the next few days.
First-dose Moderna vaccines for adults can be received at the health department in Danville on Friday and Saturday. Single-dose Johnson and Johnson clinics will be held there on May 27 and on June 2, 3 and 4. Registration is now available through the department’s website.
The health department also says that 77 more county residents have tested positive for the coronavirus. Administrator Doug Toole says that the new cases include six people each in their 70’s and 60’s, 13 teenagers, eight grade-school-aged children, four preschoolers, two toddlers and three infants. One of the new cases is from a person who was previously vaccinated. COVID-19 variants are currently spreading around the county.
