53 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Vermilion County.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says that the cases include one person in their 80’s, one person in their 70’s, four people in their 60’s, eight teenagers, seven grade-school-aged children and two infants.
There are currently 10 county residents who are hospitalized with COVID-19, and 129 cases are active.
Only 22 percent of Vermilion County is currently vaccinated against the virus, compared with 39 percent of Champaign County residents, 32 percent of people in Ford County, 28 percent in Iroquois County and 26 percent of Edgar County residents.
Five COVID vaccine clinics are being sponsored by the health department this week. Four of them are geared toward teenagers in the county. A list of clinics and registration information can be found on the department’s website.
