More than 90 dogs that were rescued from an unlicensed breeder in Oakwood in December are now settling into their new homes.
Kathleen Orcutt, who is an animal control officer with the Vermilion County Animal Shelter, says the dogs have been adopted since they came under the control of the shelter last year.
Orcutt says one puppy that was surrendered died at the shelter the following day. Many of the dogs were born with birth defects caused by poor breeding, which ultimately caused some from the facility to die. Several of the dogs had matted fur, parasites and infections.

The owner of the breeding operation, Janine Roderick, pleaded guilty last week to a misdemeanor charge of animal neglect. She was ordered to pay a $500 fine and not operate an animal care facility.
Orcutt wants the public to stop buying dogs from breeders, spay and neuter their pets and donate to their local animal rescue and shelter facilities.
