A Danville man who admitted to stealing a car from a man who was trying to sell it to him has been sentenced to six years in prison.
19-year-old Elijah Edison pleaded guilty Friday morning before Judge Charlie Hall to one count of aggravated robbery, which is a class 1 felony.
The Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s office says that Edison contacted a man online who was trying to sell his vehicle through Facebook Marketplace. They met on October 15th and Edison took the vehicle for a test drive. The man told officers that when he suggested they sign the paper work, Edison began threatening him, indicating that he was armed, and then stole the vehicle.
Danville police officers later located Edison inside the vehicle. He admitted that he had stolen it.
As part of his plea agreement, Edison was also sentenced to four years in prison for threatening a public official, which he pleaded guilty to in an earlier case from last year. The sentences will run concurrently.
Edison was given credit for 226 days spent in the Public Safety Building.
