The popular Summer Sounds concert series is back this year, with free live music and entertainment available in downtown Danville every week.
Amy Hussman McKinley, who is the president of Downtown Danville, Inc., says the concert series has expanded to 14 weeks after being scaled back last year due to the pandemic. Danville’s Portal Entertainment Group is lining up the bands each week, and McKinley says this week’s kickoff performance is a must-see.
“The Royal Hounds…they are from Nashville and they’re incredible, and if you do not come out and see them you are missing a really cool experience,” she says.
Two family fun nights are planned, the first on June 4th and the other on July 2nd. McKinley says there will be a food truck next week and sidewalk chalk. The July event is designated as “Lost Holidays” where businesses will be decorated for certain holidays that were lost in 2020. She says many of the businesses downtown are also planning on staying open for each of the Summer Sounds events.
The series will be held every Friday night beginning at 5 p.m., with the bands playing at Temple Plaza beginning at 6. Music will be provided through Labor Day weekend, with the exception of July 9th when Balloons Over Vermilion is happening.
