Any grill masters in the area who would like to show off their skills in front of judges can do so during a charity cookoff event on Saturday.
Danville’s Rawhide Meat Company is hosting its second Eastern Illinois Steak Championship Cookoff. The event was first held in 2019, and proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Danville.
Rawhide Owner Joe Vincent says the event is part of a larger championship cookoff association, which attracts a large following…
“This is really a well-run organization, with the Steak Cookoff Association,” he explains. “They have people that follow from event to event and gain points for national titles, so this keeps going on.”
Vincent says that the steaks will be judged based on their taste, texture and appearance. The event will begin with a cooks’ meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, with steaks being turned in at 2 p.m. and the winners being announced at 4:00. There will also be a Bloody Mary competition in conjunction with the Big Four Tavern.
The entry fee is $125 for the steak cookoff and $25 for the Bloody Mary competition. You can register at www.steakcookoffs.com.
