After a one-year hiatus like all of the other county fairs across the state, the Vermilion County Fair is returning this year.
The 2021 edition will take place from June 23 through June 27 at the rural Oakwood fairgrounds. Fair Board President Rick White believes this year’s edition might be one of the fair’s best.
“I think it’s going to be one of the biggest draws attendance-wise that we’ve ever had, because in talking to the carnival (manager), she said everywhere they’ve went this year the crowds have been phenomenal,” he says. “Everybody is ready to get back to a normal life.”
Events at the fairgrounds begin on Wednesday, June 23 with agricultural shows taking place during the day, as well as the queen pageant at 7 p.m. that night. Other evening entertainment includes a truck and tractor pull on June 24, Stadium Motorcross on June 26 and the Demolition Derby wrapping up the fair on Sunday, June 27.
White says that the carnival rides at the fair will be free once a person pays the $6 admission fee for that day. There are also more opportunities to win a bicycle with an armband this year.
“In the past, we’ve given away 30-35 bikes,” he explains. “This year, we’re going to give away 50 bicycles. That drawing is held at 9:00 every night, and then I think we do it twice on Saturday afternoon and then again Saturday evening.”
