Bruce Springsteen makes me cry and why that’s not a bad thing! “Bruce Springsteen makes me cry”, is a weird title for a blog/podcast, I know. What do I mean? Yes, literally, some of The Bosses songs have the power to stir up powerful emotions and bring tears to my eyes. Tunnel of Love for instance makes me mushy and weepy. Not because I don’t have love in my life, the exact opposite in fact. The Tunnel of Love makes me emotional because of the love I have in my life. It reminds me of good in myself and my spouse. Are there day’s that I want to shut the door and have just a minute of quiet time? Absolutely! There are only so many irons we can fit in the fire of our life, so to speak. Balancing your life is a constant tug of war. Right? Well, maybe not for you…. but for me it is! And, if you are like me, it gets crazy in your world from time to time. So, here are some ideas to get you thru the hard days. The days, when for no good reason you are edgy or prickly. The day’s when you have “run out of nice”. Those day’s……those day’s suck! I feel you.
Bruce Springsteen makes me cry…. that’s true. Some day’s you just need to get in your car or your shower with a good record. What I mean is that sometimes music is just what we need to adjust our attitude. Some day’s we need to listen to “Glory Day’s” and relive some of our own Glory Day’s. Don’t have any? I bet you do…..you just need a reminder. Song lyrics do that. Now my husband doesn’t like to remember song lyrics, but likes to remember how a song makes him feel. I say, it’s almost the same thing just worded differently. WE as humans are inspired by music. We take what we have in our brain and make a little movie in our heads that go with the song. You may not realize it, but you do it too–from time to time. I’m suggesting that when life gives us a struggle….a day where you want to just say forget it— that’s the day you turn on your favorite memory song. You see, songs have the power to remind us of events we may not keep at the ready. All that said, just like me, you have your own “soundtrack”. That is what music is. Music is the soundtrack of our life. Your own personal best play list. You just have to tap into it in your brain and to do so, you’ll need to carve out a minute to get away crank it up and cry…. or laugh…. or better yet, sing along!!
So, if you don’t think you have your own best of memory soundtrack then I’ve got ideas. I suggest we need to engage in some random listening to really go back in time to the “good old days”. There is no better partner for our trip than Bruce, yet there are others that strike memories for me. What cranks it up for you?
How do you feel? Do you feel restless or a little wild? There’s a song for that. Spend some time with your favorite music and some time with tracks that you’ve loved. I’m serious when I say it has the power to change your day, your mood and your life (for a little while!).
Take on the day with music. Have you tried getting ready for work or school with upbeat music playing? It’s kind of fun. Put’s bounce in your step and gets the blood going. I have an idea, put a smart speaker in your getting ready space or grab a radio and plug it in you’ll be surprised at how fast the morning goes and you’ll be in a better mood—-for real! Want some inspiration from The Boss? My personal morning favorite is “Born to Run”—-It’s just the beat for working class heroes and thank goodness we have it!
Need a boost? Amp it up with a Springsteen favorite, ” Dancing in the Dark”!! Head back to high school or college and a simple time in life when we were all dancing in the dark! It’ll speed you up and you’ll get in the groove. Need something less grown up? How about when you hear the soundtrack to a favorite movie you can sing every word (well mostly). Simple time = songs from childhood. Go back to some soundtracks to movies you first fell in love with. They will stir up some good mojo. Disney movies are a good place to turn. Literally, considered the happiest place on Earth (Yes, that’s my opinion—see previous post ) you will get some great feels from Disney soundtrack songs.
Need to be in the mood….for a date? Rev up with some salsa or Cuban sounds. Salsa makes me sway with the music–Try not to sway, it’s hard! How about some great classic rock to get you in a mood. Try Bruce’s song “Fire”—-that song has some moves if you know what I mean and date night will not be the same! Did you know it was written, by Bruce, for Elvis Presley? Yes, and Elvis died before the demo made it to him.
Dreading a task/person… The Doobie Brothers are great for this—for REAL! It’s hard to feel dread with the Doobie Bro’s playing, because they are just so darn nice. But to stay true to what I’ve been talking up here….Bruce Springsteen’s live track, Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) is just right to put life and people in prospective. I like the lyric, “Someday we’ll look back on this and it will all seem funny”, because it’s generally true!
And there you have it. Why and how Bruce Springsteen makes me cry, but in a good way. It’s cleansing to see life thru someone’s eyes other than where we sit every day and the songs that have made him famous and beloved have real meaning to him and to the listener, because it’s all based in REAL life! It’s ok to have a weepy day, a dread day, a need a boost day! If it’s nostalgia you crave, well there is no better partner than The Boss and it’s fun when you know the words and sing along. Which brings me a question, music takes you places….will you go?
