Carnie Wilson told us that despite her dad Brian Wilson's personal problems preventing him from being a conventional father — they were always able to bond musically: “I think he genuinely likes to work with me and I genuinely like to work with him. I really feel like my father passed down to me the gift of harmony and music — and I know that's part of our deep connection.”
David Crosby has been closely following Brian Wilson's music with and without the Beach Boys for nearly 60 years. He explained that by 1966, Wilson was operating in a rarefied space in rock where his only peers were really John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Bob Dylan: “He was the most highly regarded pop musician in America. Hands down. Everybody by that time had figured out who was writing it all and who was arranging it all, y'know? What year did 'In My Room' come out? That was like the defining point for me.”
Brian Wilson has two new California shows on the books — August 29th at Long Beach's Long Beach Terrace Theatre, and August 31st at San Diego's Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
