Some central Illinois recreational areas remain closed because of heavy rain and more rain is expected. In Danville, Ellsworth Park was closed because of the threat of flooding. Roads were barricaded by Public Works crews to prevent people from entering the park.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is restricting boating on the Middle Fork Vermilion River from Oakwood to the Illinois/Indiana state line. Central Zone Acting Commander John Williamson of IDNR says the swift current, floating debris, submerged structures and high-water level conditions are significantly hazardous to navigation on the river. The conditions are also treacherous for emergency personnel who are called upon to rescue persons involved in boating mishaps, said Williamson. Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn agreed.
