Danville City Council members meet in a regular session Tuesday evening (July 6, 2021), and one item on the agenda is discussion regarding the Garfield Park Municipal Pool.
Last month some aldermen said they support rehabilitating the current pool instead of replacing it. It has been estimated that it would cost $3.5-million dollars to make some necessary repairs, but around $10-million dollars to replace it.
Public Works Director Carl Carpenter noted that the longer the City Council prolongs a decision, the longer the pool will remain closed. City officials announced earlier this year that the pool would not open this year because it needs some major repairs. Cracks have appeared in the pool and there are areas where wood boards in gutters are causing problems.
Alderwoman Brenda Brown has asked that all options remain on the table for discussion, including the concept of having a lazy river to go along with the pool.
The Danville City Council meets – in person – Tuesday, (July 6, 2021) starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building at 17 West Main Street.
