The death toll from COVID-19 related causes has climbed to 149 in Vermilion County. Douglas Toole, Administrator of the Vermilion County Health Department, says the latest victims are two men in their nineties. The 149 figure is the number of county residents who have died from COVID-related causes since the pandemic began.
In addition to the deaths, Toole reported Tuesday afternoon that there are 16 new COVID-19 cases in the county. It brings to 10,095 the total number of positive cases which have been diagnosed in the county (since the pandemic started).
There are currently 5 Vermilion County residents with COVID who are hospitalized, and a total of 30 active COVID cases in the county.
Of the 16 new cases reported Tuesday, Toole says one of them reported they had been fully vaccinated. The 16 new cases include three county residents in their 90s, one in their 80s, two in their 70s, four in their 50s, three in their 40s, one in their 20s, and two teenagers.
The Vermilion County Health Department is hosting one COVID-19 vaccination clinic per month (at the Health Department office at 200 College Street in Danville). Visit the department’s website at www.vchd.org for registration information. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are allowed up until 30 minutes before the end time for the clinic.
Upcoming clinics at the Health Department will be:
- July 14, 2021 (This will be a Johnson & Johnson clinic from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. and a Moderna clinic from 11:00 a.m. until noon.
- August 11, 2021 will offer Moderna vaccinations from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
- A September 8th, 2021 clinic will offer Moderna vaccinations from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
Toole is continuing to remind county residents to be vigilant, make smart choices, and be safe during the on-going pandemic.
