A Danville man who was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle Monday night has died. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says 28-year-old Tawton L. Jackson died from blunt force injuries he received. Jackson was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, but the death was not announced until this (Wednesday) afternoon after next-of-kin had been notified.
Danville Police say Jackson was struck from behind by a vehicle as he was riding his bike eastbound on Williams Street in the area of Fairweight Street. The vehicle which struck Jackson left the scene, and police found Jackson lying in the street suffering from head injuries when they arrived.
Police announced Wednesday afternoon that information received from the public helped them locate the vehicle believed to have been involved in this incident. Police received a court ordered search warrant for a garage located at a residence in the 100 block of Fairweight Street. During a search of the garage police found the vehicle, but were still attempting to locate the driver. And they said no arrests have been made.
