Danville City Council members approved projects affecting several local streets during their meeting Tuesday evening (July 20, 2021). One of them involved approving an Intergovernmental Grant Agreement with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for improvements and realignment of the Jackson and Voorhees intersection. It does not involve a round-about, but City Engineer Sam Cole says the intersection will be widened, enhanced and some left turn lanes will be added. The work is scheduled for next year and will be funded with State grant money.
City Council members also:
- Approved funding to help with improvements along a segment of Logan Avenue, south of Madison Street. The work is in conjunction with the Carle at the Riverfront project.
- Agreed to appropriate some Motor Fuel Tax Funds for improvements to Section Street.
- Approved a roadway agreement with ThyssenKrupp Crankshaft Company, LLC and Ameren Illinois for access to and Maintenance of International Drive and International Place. It allows ThyssenKrupp to install fencing and gates within the public right-of-way. It is to enhance security on and around the company’s property.
- Approved launching a targeted program that could help areas that experience sanitary sewer overflows and backups in basements. City Engineer Sam Cole says the first area being addressed is basically north of English Street along Jackson Street – between Washington and Vermilion Streets almost to Roselawn on the north. The City Council approved a professional services agreement for sewer and manhole design engineering for the area. Other areas may be targeted as soon as next month according to Cole.
- Approved rezoning for an expansion at South Paw Grooming in South Danville.
- Heard from Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. that he is close to announcing his new Administrative Assistant, a Community Relations Administrator, and Golf Course Manager for the Harrison Park Golf Course.
