The DLO Musical Theatre and Danville’s Fischer Theatre are presenting Disney’s ‘Frozen Jr.’ this weekend. The public is invited to attend the live production featuring Danville area youth. One show was held Friday evening and others are this evening (Saturday, July 24th) at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday (July 25th) at 2:00 p.m.
The shows are being directed by Bailey Williams-Thompson. She notes there are 38 kids….ranging from 7 to 14 years old….who make up the cast. Thompson was asked on WDAN Radio’s Newsmakers program how things have gone working with so many kids…
{AUDIO: ”It’s been a challenge at times – I’m not going to lie. Kids are challenging, but they’ve been amazing. And it’s been really fun to watch them learn so much,” said Thompson. ”A lot of the people in the cast – it’s their first or second show, so they’re very new to theater. And it’s been fun watching them discover these characters and make choices, and just try their best. They’re always on it.”}
Thompson thinks the young performers get more out of it than just the fun of being in the show….
{AUDIO: ”You know, some kids who don’t have a close-knit family – that theater community becomes their family. And that’s been very apparent during the ‘Frozen’ process. I mean, watching all these relationships…it’s been beautiful. I think that sense of community, and family, and friendship is so important for every kid. And I think theater does that for them.”}
Freewill donations will be accepted at the door to help support DLO and the Fischer. There are no advanced reservations, and seats are first come, first serve.
