The Vermilion County Health Department says the county has had 15 total known cases of the delta variants of COVID. Five of them were under the age of 16, and 10 of them were over the age of 20. None of the known delta variant cases have been over the age of 60. Not all specimens collected are tested for variants.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole also reports almost 70-percent of county residents who are 65 or above have been vaccinated for protection against COVID.
The Health Department will have Shield Saliva COVID-19 tests available at its offices at 200 South College Street in Danville on Wednesday, July 28th. Hours they will be available are from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Toole says it is a great opportunity to get tested and you should get the results by the next day or earlier. The test is free and there is no need to collect any insurance information.
There are 65 active cases of COVID-19 in Vermilion County (as of July 22nd). Five people were hospitalized, and since the beginning of March of last year there have been 10,164 positive cases in the county. There have been 154 COVID-related deaths in Vermilion County since records started being tracked in March of 2020.
A total of 24,589 Vermilion County residents are fully vaccinated for protection against COVID. The number involves those people 12 and above. Only 32.01 percent of the Vermilion County population is fully vaccinated.
