The Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to consider a request for a variance from Viscofan USA next week. The company, located along Michigan Avenue on Danville’s east side, manufactures cellulose based food casings.

Viscofan is requesting a variance to add a proposed tower that is 98-feet tall. The height limitation in the existing Zoning Ordinance in that area is 55 feet. The company notes typical industrial processes are horizontal in nature which would be able to accommodate the 55 foot height limitation. But the company has a particular product that requires a vertical drop in excess of 55 feet.
The company says the proposed tower is fairly centered within the footprint of its existing building. The Commission is expected to act on the request when it meets on Thursday, August 5th, 2021 at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building at 5:15 p.m.
