Danville Fire Chief Don McMasters says bids will be opened Thursday on a proposal to replace all of the department’s radio equipment. He told members of the City Council’s Public Services Committee this evening (Tuesday) that the cost will likely exceed $300-thousand dollars….
Chief McMasters says efforts have been made to find grants to help cover the cost, but none are available. The proposal expected to be considered by the City Council next week calls for upgrading 5 repeater sites, replacing radios in all fire department vehicles, and getting 50 new hand-held radios for firefighters. Chief McMasters says there is a desperate need to replace the current equipment.
