A Danville man has been sentenced to more than 9 years in federal prison for brandishing a firearm during a local robbery. U.S. District Judge Colin Bruce sentenced 21-year-old Courtland Rowell, Jr. to 114 months in prison for obstruction of commerce by robbery, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
The charges stemmed from a late-night robbery of the Casey’s General Store at Bowman and Voorhees on June 3, 2019. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Rowell and an accomplice robbed the business as law enforcement was alerted about the robbery in progress. Rowell was captured as he fled from the scene. Charges are still pending against a second person in the offense.
Danville Police and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case. The U.S. Attorney General’s Office coordinated its prosecution with the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s office.
