The City of Danville has unveiled its new website. Visitors to the site, www.cityofdanville.org will be greeted by a picture of Danville native Dick Van Dyke and students who performed ‘Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang’ during Van Dyke’s earlier visit to the city. From there you can find information ranging from who serves on the city council to how to report a problem or learn about local parks and recreation.
Work has been underway on the site for the past year, and it went ‘live’ on Monday.
Danville City Council members reviewed the site during their meeting Tuesday evening. Also during their meeting council members approved spending $330-thousand dollars to upgrade the Fire Department’s radio system. Fire Chief Don McMasters says radios in all fire stations and vehicles will be replaced. In addition 50 new hand-held radios are being purchased for firefighters and 5 repeater sites will be upgraded. Chief McMasters says the upgrade is sorely needed. The new equipment is expected to arrive in 8 to 12 weeks.
Also at the meeting, an owner of The Big Easy Bar and Restaurant raised concerns about being unable to get a gaming license. City Council members were told the business was literally built around gaming. The owners have been waiting on the State of Illinois to act on their request for a gaming license. The City has 30 licenses but all are taken, and there are two businesses already on a waiting list.
