The Director of David S. Palmer Arena says he is excited now that events are going again. The Arena sat quiet for much of this past year because of the pandemic.
Director Joe Dunagan says a recent basketball tournament and last week’s Danville Comedy Jam went well. Now he is looking forwarded to other events…
{AUDIO: ‘’We’ve already talked about trying to do another Comedy Jam Show in October – so that’s a possibility we’re going to be doing that again. We’ve got Pancake Day coming back. We’ve got V.V. Y.F.C. Cheerleading Competition coming back. People are getting out, and from what we talked about with folks that came to the events – they’re excited about getting out and doing stuff.’’}
Coming soon to the Palmer Arena is ‘Circus Funtastic’ for three shows on Saturday, August 14th.

A new hockey team, Vermilion County Bobcats, begin play in October. (More information on the team can be found at www.vcbobcats.com.)
Danville Youth Hockey will also be back, and Dunagan says Champaign-Urbana Youth Hockey will again use the Palmer Arena for practice sessions. And there is a possibility the University of Illinois might play one of its hockey games in Danville in January, says Dunagan.

Dunagan (shown here) says as people attend events at the Palmer Arena they will be noticing more security….
{AUDIO: ‘’We’ve talked with our board about having walk-through metal detectors. We purchased four wands. We’re going to be implementing some new policies regarding bags that can be brought in – specific sizes. We’d like to do clear bag policies. So if you’re coming to the Arena understand that there’s some security measures that are going to be implemented that are going to be new. And it’s all for safety. It’s all for the safety of the people that come in – the families that want to come in and enjoy what we’re doing.’’}
Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates recently discussed security with members of the Palmer Arena Board.
