The Vermilion County Health Department reported late Wednesday that 56 new cases of COVID have been confirmed in the county. Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says there are currently 17 Vermilion County residents who are hospitalized with COVID, and the county has 132 known active cases of COVID at this time.
Of the 56 new cases reported Wednesday, three of them said they had been fully vaccinated already.
There have been 154 COVID-related deaths in Vermilion County since the pandemic started early last year.
Due to Vermilion County’s HIGH transmission status, the Health Department continues to recommend that everyone, despite your vaccination status, should wear a mask when indoors.
‘’We are encouraging our community to get vaccinated, to get tested, to stay home when they are sick, and to wear face masks,’’ said Toole in a news release late Wednesday. He said the Health Department vaccinated 21 people at their Johnson & Johnson clinic Wednesday, and 48 people were tested for COVID at the Health Department’s clinic Wednesday.
Shield Illinois saliva COVID-19 testing will occur at the Health Department’s office at 200 South College Street in Danville every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Appointments are recommended but not required.
